Idaho Mountain Express: October 1, 2014

Misty Morning Push Topples Hill Climb Records
Colorado-born Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation Gold Team cross-country ski racer Miles Havlick left home for the University of Utah, where he became an All-American skier for his Sun Valley-born coach Abi Holt. And he left Utah for the mountains of Ketchum, where he feathered his own nest Saturday morning in a memorable Baldy Hill Climb effort. Havlick, 24, broke Michael Tobin’s 25-year-old Baldy Hill Climb record with a remarkable finish of 35 minutes and four seconds for the 1.86-mile, 3,140-vertical-foot ascent. Here, Havlick emerges from the morning mist and pushes to the finish atop Baldy. There were 171 climb-ers and bikers participating, with Joshua Berry, 24, breaking the mountain-bike ascent record. To read a story and see the results, turn to Pages B2 and B3. Photo by Willy Cook.
